In her closing speech at a Public Forum in Carmarthen today (Saturday 28th of January), the regional Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith appealed to Carmarthenshire County Council to use next year's revision of the Local Development Plan (LDP) to ensure that young people have the chance to make their future in our local Welsh-speaking communities. People from local communities all over the county came to the Forum to explain to leading councillors and officers how the housing market, planning policies and the lack of services were undermining Welsh-speaking communities.

In response to Alun Davies' comments on the Welsh Langugae Standards, Manon Elin, Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith's language rights group, said: "The Minister for the Welsh Language has said he wants to build on the Standards system, and we welcome that. What is more, we see it is necessary to strengthen the Welsh Language Measure to include the private sector, and to include the unquestionable right to use the language in every aspect of life on the face of the bill – which would put flesh on the bones of the existing Standards system.
